Description:
The Ward County Veterans Service Office is responsible for assisting veterans, widows of veterans, children or other eligible relatives of veterans in making claims for benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs. These benefits include, but are not limited to, applications for service-connected compensation, pensions for low-income vets, medical care, education, home loan guarantees and burial benefits. We offer emergency loans to any qualified resident veteran and medical grants to low income vets. This office also advises veterans and refers them to the appropriate professional people to assist with their problems. We assist veterans and their spouses in application to the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon and North Dakota Veterans Cemetary. The VSO also accomplishes home, nursing home, and hospital visits to assist impaired veterans.

Wellness in the Valley

Description:
Wellness in the Valley acts as advocates for mental health. We are a link between people and services regarding their mental health concerns. We connect those in need with counselors, doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, and treatment centers. Our partner, Faith in Action, offers rides to appointments when needed. Wellness gives depression screenings and has a large library of information on many mental health topics for all ages. We also have a mental health support group, a support group for the family members of those living with a mental health issue, a survivor's of violent death support group, and are affiliated with a grief support group. Wellness is here for the survivors of suicide, too. We are available to answer questions and provide support to the communities in which we serve. We are community-based suicide prevention program modeled after the Surgeon General's Guidelines. Our agency offers Gatekeeper Trainings to many organizations and service groups covering national and state suicide statistics, symptoms of depression, risk factors for suicide, how to speak with someone you are concerned about, along with the facts about firearms and suicide.
