St. Alexius Medical Center Partial Hospitalization Program

Description:
Partial Hospitalization Program is a time limited ambulatory program for patients with psychiatric, emotional and addictive disorders. The active treatment program offers an intensive, coordinated, structured and interdisciplinary approach not provided in an outpatient clinic setting. The program includes psychiatric, psychological, and chemical dependency addiction treatment to pursue goals such as averting inpatient hospitalization and/or reducing the length of a hospital stay. The Partial Hospitalization Program is a part of the Behavioral and Mental Health Continuum offered at St. Alexius Medical Center. The predominant patients served are children 7-12 years, adolescents 13-18 years, adults and geriatric patients. Patients must be admitted under the care of a psychiatrist. Patients must exhibit serious or disabling psychiatric/psychological signs and symptoms, and/or chemical dependency/addiction symptoms, and/or marked impairment in multiple areas of daily life, and/or marked instability in their safety, and/or a limited support system or use of such a system. Patients must have the capacity for active participation in treatment. Partial Hospitalization Program offers intensive treatment for each patient and lasts up to six hours per day, with patients returning home in the evening. In this way, daily treatment is integrated with family, school, work, and community interaction. The patient is exposed to normal day to day routines while processing and learning new coping strategies. Each patient receives a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary evaluation, including nursing, occupational therapy and social services upon admission. A chemical dependency/addiction evaluation is also completed as appropriate. Other additional assessments may be completed based on patient need. Treatment includes group, individual and family therapy, education, drug and alcohol awareness and/or treatment and follow-up are addressed based on patient need. Topics addressed in programming include coping, anger management, family/relational issues, self-esteem, stress management, values, relaxation skills, communications and feelings. Treatment in this program meets criteria for coverage by Blue Cross, Blue Shield and other third party payers, including Medical Assistance. In Partial Hospitalization Program handles pre-authorization of insurance as well as insurance update throughout patient stay.
