Grand Forks Community Service Program

Description:
Our program provides adult offenders an opportunity to work community service for non-profit or government agencies in lieu of serving time in jail or paying fines and fees. This allows individuals the opportunity to remain in society and maintain their jobs and families. Referrals of offenders are received from the courts, probation offices, and other criminal justice agencies. An average of 1000 hours of community service worked monthly provides much needed help for non-profit agencies in the area and qualified agencies may call to receive help at any time. We also provide drug testing for the courts as a condition of bond and are contracted with Social Services to provide drug testing when referred.

Description:
Individuals and families in Grand Forks County who are in need of assitance with their rental costs may apply to the Housing Assistance Program. This is a Federal Program designed to assist low to moderate-income individuals and families with their rental costs. The applicant must be income eligible, and those with a preference status will be assisted beore those without preference status. The Voucher program can assist families in Grand Forks County in a unit they choose as long as it meets Housing Quality Standards and is rent reasonable. Our office also manages assisted apartments throughout the city of Grand Forks. These include elderly and handicapped accessible units. Grand Forks Housing Authority manages rental units throughout the city that are available to those who are eligible. This includes low income housing tax credit programs, which assures affordable rents. GFHA also has home ownership opportunities, including: The Promenade (portable homes), Voucher Home Ownership Program, and The American Dream Program, which can help with downpayment and closing costs for first-time home buyers.

G.F. Senior Citizens provides federal Title III services in Grand Forks and Nelson counties. This includes congregate meals in Aneta, McVille, Tolna, Lakota, Larimore and 5 Grand Forks city sites. Resevations are required the day before. Home delivered meals provided through G.F. Senior Center. Outreach services provide assistance to seniors in helping them set up services to continue to live independently. Health Services provide foot care, blood pressure screening, medication set up, and other health services to seniors in G.F. County. Rural transportation is avaliable for anyone in G.F. county twice monthly. A wide range activities are available for seniors (55+ years of age). Guardian and Protective Services, Inc (GaPS) serves vulnerable adults who have no family members or capable adults living nearby. We strive to keep these individuals self-sufficient, and in their homes, whenever possible. The types of protective arrangements available include representative payee, power of attorney, guardian and conservator services. Many of our clients are low income. They are charged client fees based upon their "ability to pay" with assistance from grants and community donations.
