The Foster Grandparent Program, funded in part by the Corporation for National and Community Service, is locally sponsored by the Dacotah Foundation. The program offers volunteer opportunities for persons age 60 and older that meet income eligibility guidelines, have a sincere love and interest for children. Foster Grandparents serve in schools, Head Starts and other child-related institutions. The heart of the program is the care and attention given by the volunteers to children with special and exceptional needs. Foster Grandparents provide stability, emotional support and companionship to children one-one-one. This special care provided helps youth gain confidence to become more productive members of society. By improving the lives of the children they serve, seniors also enrich their own lives. Benefits to seniors are a tax-free stipend, annual and sick leave, transportation assistance, physical, a meal at the site, acccident and liability insurance while they are serving.
